Public intervention

Public intervention to me means bringing art out of the gallery and onto the street by postering, leaving photos around, and going on photo walking tours with the public (see Calgary photo walks). The actions are meant to surprise the public and challenge the viewer/finder to respond. The photos I have left in the downtown core have had messages on the back directing the finder to a website or participate in an action. I started postering in 2009:

Postering was also part of my ArTours exhibition at Truck Gallery 2010:

Leaving 4×6″ color photographs in the nooks and crannies of the downtown core of Calgary was part of my Calgary Allied Arts Foundation studio residency in 2010, and also is an ongoing action. The message on the back of these photos directed the finder to my CAAF studio location.
